cities along the evocative Silk Road, a timeless area that invites you 
to step into the pages of the past.
Uzbekistan & the 
Ancient Silk Road
Days 1 & 2. To ancient Khiva
Your Silk Road adventure begins 
with an overnight flight to Urgench. 
Arriving on Day 2, we transfer to 
our hotel in Khiva’s UNESCO-listed 
Old City before a guided tour of the 
Itchan Kala and Djuma Mosque.
Days 3 & 4. Kyzylkum desert
Journeying into the Kyzylkum 
desert, we see Bactrian camels 
and the ‘Fifty Fortress Oasis’. We 
enjoy an authentic lunch at a 
desert yurt camp, before dinner 
is accompanied by a traditional 
Khorezm folklore performance. On 
Day 4, we head to Bukhara, which 
dates from the 6th century BC.
Days 5 & 6. Bukhara’s rich history
In Bukhara today, we embark on a 
tour, viewing the Ulugbek madrasa, 
the Po-i-Kalyan complex, and the 
Ark of Bukhara, before a cooking 
class and dinner with a local 
family. Day 6 brings a visit to the 
Bahauddin Naqshband Memorial 
Complex and the Chor Minor. 
Days 7 & 8. Ancient Samarkand
Today, we board the high-speed 
Afrosiyob train to the ancient city 
of Samarkand. On a tour, we take 
in the city’s monuments, including 
the fabled Registan. We also enjoy 
a traditional dance show at the 
Theatre of Historical Costume.
Days 9 & 10. To Tashkent 
During a visit to Afrasiyab, we learn 
how this hilltop city was ‘lost’ and 
visit the Observatory of Ulugh 
Begt, before boarding a train to the 
capital, Tashkent. Day 10 brings a 
tour of central Asia’s largest city.
Day 11. Homeward bound
Your tour concludes today with a 
morning transfer to the airport for 
our early flight back to London.
